Cabaret Connexion is a new way of doing church which features ‘stories of faith in a laid-back setting’. So far hosts from 16 different churches in Calne, Seagry, Bradford, and Corsham as well as Chippenham have taken tables at one or more of the 35 events to date. Three quarters of the audience are repeat attendees and for slightly over half this is their main experience of church. Normally the first half of the evening is a performance by the artiste. We stop for some sort of light snack. The interval is followed by an extended conversation which uncovers the interviewee’s personal journey and is always left open-ended so that table hosts are free to pursue the conversation over coffee and mints as they wish. Quite often they are dragging guests away at 10.45pm while the crew are trying to get cleared up.
